Anti-Democratic

If you follow Missouri politics closely, you've heard that I was prevented from filing for office on the day filing opened. When I went to pay my fee to the Missouri Democratic Party, the people sitting there for that purpose didn't take my check and provide a receipt like they did for other citizens. Instead, they handed me a letter from a law firm.

While the Missouri Democratic Party claims this was a decision of the party, I have not spoken with any elected leader of the party who claims they authorized such action. In fact, this appears to be a rogue staff member who is improperly exercising his authority to keep a four-time elected Democrat from challenging the person they have decided will be their candidate.

That's not democracy.

I understand that my actions have not been universally appreciated by Missouri Democrats. But that's the thing about democracy:

Voters should decide who the candidates are.
Not the party.

It will take quite an effort to preserve democracy in Missouri. The Missouri Democratic Party has been fighting an uphill battle for years to try to elect more Democrats to office in Missouri. But honestly, I don't know why anyone would look at what has been done in the name of the Missouri Democratic Party and choose to run for office.

I hope that I can encourage party leadership to correct these rogue staff. Meanwhile, I need your support to fight for free and fair elections in Missouri.
