Why I’m Running as a Democrat

When I announced earlier this month that I would be running for Governor of Missouri, the first and only thing some reporters wanted to know was what party platform I would be running under.

I chose not to tell the reporters, who had no other questions, because that is not the most important part of my campaign.

I have been elected as State Representative four different times under the Democratic platform. My actions as a state Representative - protecting workers, protecting a social safety net, and working to ensure a government that works for all Americans, aligns with the Democratic platform.

My colleagues’ choice not to associate with me doesn’t reflect on my values - it reflects on theirs. My values to protect all Americans and to build a government that works for my fellow Missourians remain strong. These are values that I share with the Democratic Party and with President Joe Biden.

Because these remain my values, I will file to run for Governor of Missouri as a Democrat on February 27, 2024.

I encourage others who share these values to also file to run for office as a Democrat. We cannot have a strong state without supporters of good government serving at every level.
