Statement on St. Louis City Bill 203

Board Bill 203AA has been proposed in St. Louis, Missouri.

This bill would prevent employers and housing providers from discriminating against women based on pregnancy or reproductive health decisions.

In short, it would prevent an employer from refusing to hire or from firing an employee who is pregnant, uses birth control, or has an abortion. It would prevent a landlord from refusing to lease to an individual for the same reasons.

This bill would not require employers to provide health coverage for birth control or abortion. This bill would not force anybody to offer reproductive health services on their property.

This bill would not limit first amendment speech freedoms of employers. It would not prohibit anti-abortion protests or limit an employer from taking a public stand against abortion.
